Wedding season 2019 started with an amazing couple, Tessa and Kyle. We originally met up with them in Eagle River at the Sleepy Dog Cafe. Of course, In the time building up to their wedding day, I was getting excited. I'd imagine different scenarios of how things would play out, what I wanted to capture for them and make sure that as a one-person show, that I was to be covering as much that I physically could. On the day of the wedding, we showed up. I did bring a hairstylist and makeup artist to glam-up the bridal party. I was getting images of the process between the bride and her party, as well as the groom and his. I ran up and down many flights of stairs to capture everything in between and it was an adventure, to say the least. The Sunset View Lodge in Big Lake where the wedding was being held was pretty large. This 3-4 story facility was beautiful. While everyone was finishing up and while guests were starting to crowd in and awaiting the bridal party, I went down there and covered the ceremony space outside as well as the reception facility. After that, I went back in to capture what I could of both parties await the big moment.
The ceremony started and here came the entourage that made up this group of amazing friends and family to support and stand by the bride and groom. We stood at the bottom of the run and off to the side and with my telephoto lens, I captured everyone walking down and getting reactions of the bridal party, awaiting the big moment. The couple exchanged a few words and I watched the groom take his bride in excitement and gave her the biggest kiss in excitement. They did it! They made it! We all gathered near a garden and a trail where the sunlight that had broken through the rain clouds hours before and saw how beautiful it was and chose that area as our bridal party portraits. It was amazing to capture everyone there who was celebrating Tessa and Kyle's big day and after many laughs from everyone's funny antics, we headed for the reception.
The newlyweds entered and began visiting with their loved ones and reveiving their congratulatory praises and then the music started and so did the food. The had a beautiful naked cake with fruit and plenty of drinks to follow. After exchanging toats and supporting love and stories of how their stories intertwined to bring them to this very day, they cut the cake and danced. The crowd was having so much fun dancing and laughing in every song. One of my favorite parts during the reception activities was the moment that the groom was to be blindfolded and remove the bride's garter. Surprise surprise, the bride switched with a groomsman and with his cargo shorts and a bright white lacey garter, everyone watched and recorded Kyle dancing and crawling across the floor to his "bride". After removing the garter with his teeth and everyone in pain from laughing so hard, he removed the blindfold and commented on his friend's strong calve muscle. I caught that and could not stop laughing.
After the festivities wound down, I packed up and helped the family members who were helping with a lot of the cleanup and helped throw things away and take out the trash. Yes, I helped with cleanup. I always try and lend a helping hand, even if it's not my job or duty. The courtesy and helpfulness mean something to someone and during a large event like this, it's always appreciated and it's hard for me not to offer some help.
Tessa and Kyle, your wedding day had a few delays in the beginning before the ceremony, just as most wedding days do during the preparation, but you made it through, you both looked so beautiful and went on to have one hell of a wedding day and I am so happy for you both. I cannot express how lucky I am that I was able to capture it for you. It was a great start to my wedding adventures for the season and I was there to capture the ceremony to mark the beginning of YOUR big adventure.
Thank You!
